Breast Cancer

The diagnosis of a malignant breast tumor is a great physical and psychological challenge for every affected woman (and of course also for the much less frequently affected men). Breast cancer (Mamma-Ca) is one of the most common cancers in women and, if detected and treated in time, can often even be cured.

Breast cancer usually occurs randomly (sporadically) and in about 10% of all those affected as a hereditary form. Then, in many cases, a disease-causing hereditary predisposition can be detected. Among the hereditary predispositions that have been known for an extended period of time are the so-called breast cancer genes BRCA 1 and BRCA 2. We can determine whether a hereditary form of breast cancer is present by examining the genetic material. We only need a simple blood sample for this examination. Additional tissue removal from the tumor is not necessary.

More Information

In the case of the hereditary form of breast cancer, genetic testing is important because in a positive case, for example, the risk of ovarian cancer and the occurrence of malignant tumors in the other breast may also be increased. Furthermore, information about the genetic status of a patient is also important for other family members (e.g. biological children or siblings).

Please seek our genetic consultation for advice.

We can test patients to determine whether they have a genetic predisposition to breast and ovarian cancer! Both diseases belong to the same group of forms, i.e. they can also occur in different family members depending on the family.
