Informations about the disease

Clinical Comment

Microcephaly is often accompanied by epilepsy (40%), eye disease (20-50%), cerebral palsy (20%) and especially mental retardation (50%) of varying degrees. In the case of mental retardation combined with microcephaly, all the classic hereditary factors are observed, and multifactorial causation appears to predominate. The diagnostic rate depends primarily on the quality and results of the preliminary clinical examinations. An inconspicuous genetic finding does not mean that the suspected clinical diagnosis is excluded.
