Clinical Comment

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a very aggressive tumor with a five-year survival rate of <6%. Chronic pancreatitis is a strong risk factor for PDAC. In addition to common epidemiologic risk factors, several genetic polymorphisms are known susceptibility loci for, both, chronic pancreatitis and PDAC. Included in the given panel are genes that account for cancer development risks based on chronic pancreatitis. Therefore, the core message of these studies usually concerns relative risks for PDAC. Inheritance is multifactorial; extensive study results on diagnostic yield are not available.
